The area is considered a hotspot for freeriders

Away from the pistes, Zauchensee also offers skiing at the highest level

In addition to the famous “East” variation from Gamskogel, numerous powder descents on untouched slopes await you. The best way to find them is with local guides who know exactly where the perfect powder snow is hidden. Freeriders can look forward to top-class variants such as “Gamskogel East” or the ski route toward Flachauwinkl. The experience is perfect when local guides show you the best and, above all, safest routes.

Tip: Check points are available at the two valley stations Weltcuparena Zauchensee and Highport Flachauwinkl, where avalanche transceivers can be tested to ensure they are working properly.

Let it run

Sporty skiing with world champion credentials

Zauchensee has everything sporty skiers are looking for. Above all, this is thanks to its exceptionally snow-safe location between 1,000 and 2,100 meters above sea level.

Zauchensee/Flachauwinkl offers challenging and varied descents, wide carving pistes, excellent freeride routes including the legendary “East” on Gamskogel, several tree runs, and a racing heritage with downhill world champion Michael Walchhofer, who lives here.

Freeriding in Zauchensee

Straight into powder bliss

As the highest ski area in the Salzburg Sport World and one of the snow-safest areas in the Alps, Zauchensee is also considered an insider tip among freeriders and off-piste fans.

The freeride slopes are directly accessible from the mountain stations, and the famous East from Gamskogel has cult status in the scene. For a unique and safe freeride adventure, it is recommended to let local ski guides show you the most beautiful slopes.
